A graduate of the Philadelphia College of Art, Susan studied painting and illustration. She is part of a long tradition of art students turned musicians, and throughout her music career she has continued to create her visual art.
During the 90’s. Susan’s paintings were shown in solo and group shows in such NYC galleries as: The Thread Waxing Space, Archetype Gallery and Milk Studios. She sold her one of kind, hand painted furniture and objects in stores like Barneys, Kate’s Paperie and Gumps. She also designed sets for music videos and off-Broadway theatre.
Susan is currently completing a series of paintings inspired by the Book of Love song: “Miss Melancholy”. The song, from their 1990 Candy Carol Album, detailed the clinical depression she experienced at the time.
It has always been her dream to bring this song to life visually.
This Suite of paintings (equal parts haiku and fairy tale), tell the story of Miss Melancholy and so much more! There are 8 paintings in the series.
Each piece is 60” x 36”, consisting of 4 joined panels. They are works on paper made with graphite and pastel.
A video for “ Miss Melancholy” is currently in production.
Also included in the series are the Spice Racks assemblages. The Spice Racks are created using vintage wooden spice racks from the 60’s and 70’s. They are transformed into multi-media assemblages. These tiny altars are little treasures made with fabric, drawings, keys, buttons, doll parts and other mixed media that are homage to Miss Melancholy and friends.
Stay tuned for details for the opening of this exhibit in NYC.
